Experience and Competencies
I provide visual documentation services to cultural and educational organisations. I also provide training and consultancy in the design, management and evaluation of social projects to academic, governmental and non-governmental organisations. Specifically, I am able to offer specific services in:

PHOTOGRAPHY: As part of my professional practice
I am able offer clients a comprehensive photographic
documentation service. This includes field-visits
and negotiations with stakeholders on the kinds of image
required, professional level 35 mm photography
using dedicated digital cameras
and the preparation of
publication or web ready images or exhibition quality
prints using photochemical or digital technologies.
CONSULTANCY:
In my consultancy practice, I have provided training and consultancy services for the The Council of Europe, the British Council, Oxfam, and the UK government's Department for International Development, and have worked on projects in Eastern and Central Europe Europe, the Caucasus region, China and South Asia. At King's I am involved in research and teaching in applied linguistics, and run postgraduate courses in Managing and evaluating innovation, Text and corpus linguistics, and the teaching of English for Academic Purposes.
EDUCATION and RESEARCH:
Alongside my
photograpic and consultancy practice I continue to have a
long-standing research and teaching interest in applied
linguistics, with a particular focus on written
communication and the use of text data-bases (corpora)
in ELT. I am a lecturer in Applied Linguistics and
English Language Teaching at King's College, University
of London (courses in Managing and Evaluating
Innovation, Analysing written discourse, and English for
Academic Purposes). I also maintain an interest in
literary stylistics and have presented conference papers
in this area.
I now divide my time between Kendal, in the English Lake District, and London. I lived and worked in France in the 1970s, China (1983-84), and then in Riga (1992-95), Poland (1995-1998 and 2002-06, and Sri Lanka (1998-2002). I have taught in universities in the UK, China and France, as well as in adult and primary education in the UK.
